On the corner of Broad and Wall Street, George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States. Home to the first congress, supreme court, and executive offices, the original Federal Hall was trully the birthplace of the current government of the United States. The building still serves the Federal Government as a museum and memorial to the first president and the beginnings of the United States of America.

Originally built as a country home in 1799 overlooking the East River by Archibald Gracie.
Designated in 1942, as the official residence of the Mayor of The City of New York. Fiorello H. La Guardia was the first mayoral tenant. It is also used to accommodate visiting officials and dignitaries. It's one of the oldest surviving wood structures in Manhattan and a member of The Historic House Trust. Tours are available.

African Burial Ground

In 1991 during excavation work for a new federal office building, workers discovered the skeletal remains of the first of more than 400 men, women and children. Further investigation revealed that during the 17th and 18th centuries, free and enslaved Africans were buried in lower Manhattan outside the boundaries of the settlement of New Amsterdam, which would become New York. Over the decades, the unmarked cemetery was covered over by development and landfill.
